Weekend Wear: Styling a Wide Brimmed Hat

A few days ago, I linked to a wide brimmed hat on FB and a few comments immediately popped up….”Love it!  Where am I wearing it”?  Truthfully, I know what you mean.  When and where is a hat like this appropriate?  Personally, I reserve them for when I am spending a good part of my day outside.  Think soccer games and then to the park with your little ones.  I will often will wear mine when I have a million errands to run…popping in and out of stores.  Weekend wear at its best!

I say (especially if you aren’t sure where you are going to wear it) to stay on the frugal side of this trend.  My hat below was on super sale from Calypso St. Barth two seasons ago.  I don’t wear it constantly, but when I do, it adds an undeniable level of cool.  I think I paid 40 dollars…SCORE!  I also love that it keeps the sun off my face…BONUS!  I hope all of you have an amazing weekend:)

Simple Style: Ankle Length Denim

I am up to my eyeballs….boxes to get out, Stella&Dot orders to process…so please forgive that I have VERY little to share today.  When it comes to style….I say it often that simple is best and this outfit is the epitome of simple.  Injecting a little personal style with some beautiful tassel jewelry (link to buy below) and a fun wide brimmed hat.  Hope you find some outfit inspiration!

* Ankle length denim is all the rage for Spring…so if this cute pair doesn’t strike your fancy- check your local shops for a pair that does:)

Fall Favorite: Dress with Boots

This London Times dress gifted to me last fall is truly one of my favorite casual dresses.  I have worn it to showers, family parties and apparently down by the boat docks:)  Seriously though…the fit, comfort and style are just so wearable.  A close second in the favorites category are these Frye boots.  I have had them for about eight years and NEVER tire of them.  The older and more beat up they get, the better they look.  I have decided I don’t wear them nearly enough…so you might see a little resurgence on the blog this fall. Although I love the new “bootie” trend, there is something timeless about dresses and tall boots…always in style.  Don’t you think?  Hope you find some outfit inspiration and Happy Monday!

East West Mamas: Sole Society Feature

When my new go-to for trendy inexpensive shoes, Sole Society wanted to collaborate for early fall it was a no brainer choosing this killer knee high boot. Tanya  and I both fell instantly in love and the rest is history:)  With the temps being cooler here on the East coast, denim seemed to work perfectly back to these badass boots….meanwhile…the West apparently called for a killer dress…totally drooling over Tanya’s….so bohemian chic, no?  Pop by her blog here to see her style up close and personal.  Hope you enjoy this months addition of East West Mamas, grab some style inspiration and make it a fabulous week!

Vacation Style

So as many of you know, my husband and I went to Key Largo to celebrate a friends wedding this past weekend.  The weather wasn’t cooperating and it was cloudy and cold both Friday and Saturday…but then….at 3pm….right in time for her oceanfront vows…the clouds parted and the sun came out!  It was beautiful and I was so happy that my friend got the wedding of her dreams.  We extended our trip for an extra night and went to South Beach from Key Largo where I was able to meet up with a few of my college besties for cocktails and conversation.  Don’t I have a great husband?  Night out with the girls is probably not what he had in mind….but he always humors me:)   Below are snippets from my weekend…I really tried (except for the occasional Instagram update) to stay disconnected and focus on my alone time with my man, my dearest friends and the carefree days without kiddies.  Regular outfit posts and reviews should be back up and running by the weeks end.  All photos taken with my phone, so forgive they aren’t as clear as usual.  Make it a great week!

Thank you Nicole!

Thought I would share some maternity/family photos we took last month.  I adore Nicole, the photographer, because she is creative, talented and most importantly (when it comes to newborn and children’s photography) she is patient.  I am always surprised by her amazing shots and this shoot was no exception.  Honestly, the shoot was a bit of a disaster….Sun in our eyes, sand blowing in our faces, Connor took off into the water and was soaking wet from the waist down within ten minutes.  Photoshoot ended shortly thereafter, but somehow, Nicole pulled out a plethora of beautiful shots for me to choose from. If you live in the New Jersey area, I highly recommend visiting her Facebook Page here and scheduling with her.  She has been Connor’s photographer since birth and will remain with our family as long as she is willing:) Thank you Nicole!

*Remember my inspiration board here?  The dress ended up being perfect and I decided to ditch the jewelry for a more natural feel.  Dress Calypso St Bart, Stud Earrings gift from my husband, Sunhat (below photo) Helen Kaminski, Quilt photographers prop.

Beach Photos

My family is finally taking the beach shots I have so desired for eons. We moved to the shore about three years ago and I have longed for a family beach photo shoot…but you know how life is…and my husband isn’t really a picture taking enthusiast….ironic, I know. With my leverage growing belly, I convinced him that a family/maternity shoot would be perfect to make it all happen. I have the men covered in distressed jeans and linen tops but mama was more complicated (women’s fashion always is, no?). I decided on this Calypso St. Bart Maxi and it arrived yesterday. It is a little snug through the bust (told bust to settle down for two weeks) but perfectly loose through body and really captures the natural organic look I really want. Below are my other inspirations for the shoot…wavy tousled hair and so on. I will be sure to share some of the photos!
