XIX Most Fashionable Women in Philadelphia

I worked for the Nicole Miller brand for over five years in Philadelphia as their Director of Sales and Merchandising.  It was an amazing job that kept the flame burning for my passion of all things fashion and retail.  Without that particular job, the people, and the journey, I would never be a working personal shopper and stylist.

The owner of the Philadelphia stores, Mary Dougherty , taught me a very wise lesson…..Small businesses have an obligation to give back to the community that supports them. I am probably the smallest business around, but finding a place to donate my time and closet overflow from clients, was one of my top priorities.  Working with Grace Initiatives gives me such joy.   I like to think it is part of the reason for my continued growth and success…beyond that, it just feels good.

Monday, I attended an event hosted by Nicole Miller Philadelphia to celebrate the XIX (Nineteen) Most Fashionable Women in Philadelphia.  Chosen, of course, for their impeccable sense of style…but also for their inspirational philanthropic work in the community.  The energy in the room was contagious and has me dreaming up different ways to give back.

The Event:

The event was held at XIX Restaurant at the Hyatt at the Bellevue.  It was an intimate event…with tons of media there- Hence the reason I did not get a great shot of the 19 women 🙁  As soon as PR company gets one to me, I will be adding it to the post.  For now, you will have to enjoy my not so great photos of the room.  Below I have also listed the women who were honored one by one.  Some really amazing women…Google them:)

#Monday Mingle: All Dressed Up

This past Saturday my husband and I attended The Beauty Ball hosted by an amazing organization The Beauty Foundation for Cancer Care  at Trump in Colts Neck, New Jersey.  Dear friends of ours are members and they invited us to join in the evening- raising money and awareness for the families suffering from Cancer.  This hits close to home as my father is a cancer survivor and although he is in remission and the best “pop” around…it was definitely something that shook our family to the core.

I purchased this dress a while back…actually I purchased it for a client at the request of her husband and wrapped it up with some other items for her birthday gift.  I fell in love with the mixture of classy/sexy that the dress exudes and snatched one up for myself.  Here it is in all its glory for #MondayMingle, the style collaboration between myself, BonBon Rose Girls and Momtrends.  The linkup is being hosted by Kristin today so pop by and JOIN IN.   Also, don’t forget to enter the awesome giveaway ..it ends this week!

I am in Philadelphia all day today…training and some inspirational talk from the creator of Stella & Dot.  Follow along on Instagram for fun pics and pretty baubles!  Happy Monday!

Crappy Photo Disclaimer:  Sorry for the not so great photos below…I really try to enjoy the events I attend and be in the moment.  There was no time for a pre-party photo session and all pics were taken on my phone.

New Years Eve Style: Repeat Offender

Years ago….before Facebook, Instagram and this blog I would have never thought twice about re-wearing something I loved two weeks later…especially since it was a totally different crowd. I hemmed and hawed for days over what to wear for New Years Eve….

We had relatively low key plans…my parents took the kiddies for the night…so we knew we wanted to do something, but we didn’t want to travel or spend a fortune.  We stuck close to home and had a beautiful dinner (just the two of us) at Prime 13 and then met my sisters and friends at 709 for cocktails…cocktails…and a few more cocktails.  I knew the pantsuit would be the perfect mix of cool, comfortable and chic but I was fresh off wearing it in NYC.  I tortured myself for a few days and then decided, who cares, and focused on styling it differently with some fun black and gold accessories.

I have been DYING to try the bohemian headband look for some time now…but it never happened…so when I stumbled across this black and gold floral one I decided to give it a try.  I received countless compliments and felt like it really went with the vibe of the pantsuit…Studio 54 anyone?  Hopefully this post inspires you to re-wear a few of your favorite pieces this month!  Just focus on different shoes, bag and accessories and no one will know:)

I truly hope each and every one of you had a beautiful New Year spent with loved ones…I, for one, am beyond excited to see what 2014 has in store!  Watching my babies continue to grow into little men…continuing to better our eating habits and food choices..super focused on growing my business…and doing it all IN STYLE!  2014 is going to be an AMAZING year:)

Linking up with two pretty mommies, Mama Fashion Files and Baby Shopaholic!

Great Friends…Great Times

If you follow along on Instagram or Facebook.…you know I was in Atlanta for a friends wedding this past weekend. Former cheerleading beauty Janette was marrying the man of her dreams at the St. Regis in Buckhead. It was a magical event…and I really really mean it…as the wedding planner extraordinaire, Mindy WeissDID NOT DISAPPOINT.  If you read along on this blog…you know I am the WORST at capturing events I attend…I like being present in the moment….enjoying myself and the people around me.  I apologize that the photos are grainy….but I wanted to share them regardless.  I had an awesome time…not without a few hiccups…was stuck in an elevator for 40 minutes and almost missed the ceremony…YIKES!  Then Sunday, due to weather, my flight was cancelled and I had to stay an extra night at an airport hotel.  Missing my boys like crazy…I am so elated to be home:) All worth it in the end however to be part of Janette and Dans special day and see some amazing friends that live too far away!  Enjoy…

IMG_8163Is this not the sweetest moment captured by one of the bridesmaids?  The bride and her mother..who BOTH happen to be the sweetest most beautiful women!!!!

This was the STUNNING brides second dress….I mean…exuding happiness is an understatement.  So wonderful to share in her special day!

I think this may be one of my easiest formal looks to recreate.  You can honestly take ANY black dress and make it look fresh and new again with a mess of pearls and a hot red lip!  I have highlighted some fabulous and affordable pearl options below…don’t be afraid to mix colors, styles and size of the pearl….just have FUN with it.  I also think nothing screams holiday spirit like a splash of red…so if lips aren’t your thing…try painting your nails a pretty shade of red.  Hope you are inspired and Happy Shopping:)

City Girl: Black and White Trend

Yesterday was my 34th birthday and I had an awesome night in NYC on Monday with some great friends.  It was completely impromptu which made it even more fabulous and fun! We went to the restaurant Catch in the Meatpacking district and it was beyond…like so freaking delicious! We sat at the table next to Jamie Foxx…see my girlfriend below…I was too embarrassed to ask for a pic…what is that about?  Anyway….  Thank you to everyone for all the sweet birthday messages via email, text, instagram and facebook…made this old lady feel SPECIAL!

Please forgive the crappy photoshoot….I really really try to just ENJOY my time with friends…being truly present and in the moment…so I only have a few instagram shots and grainy photos from my phone.  I loved my outfit SO very much…thank you RD Style for all the goodies…got quite a few compliments…so I thought I would share how to “get the look”!  Hope you find some outfit inspiration and Happy Wednesday!

Some Candids from Instagram:

Outfit Recreation: Black and White Blouse w Black Mini

Trends: Layered Necklaces and Leather Vests

Firstly, completely unrelated to all things fashion or the outfit post below…but it wouldn’t be right to share all about this glorious dress and not make mention of the complete devastation that has hit the Jersey Shore yet AGAIN. A few towns over,in Seaside, a huge fire has destroyed half of the boardwalk…buildings and businesses that have been there for decades…just gone.  I am not sure how much more the towns here can bear but please say a little prayer for the families, businesses, firefighters and first responders.  My heart breaks as people rally to rebuild…again.

Today is my husbands 35th birthday…Happy Bday babe!  He is off to golf and we are planning a big family dinner…cake and all…for tonight.  Last night, we decided to go to dinner, just the two of us.  I have been itching to wear this Von Vonni dress again…it is probably my most favorite dress…EVER!  I needed a way to bring a more casual vibe to it…and my trusted Rachel Zoe leather vest did the trick.  I kept the rest of the look really really simple…minimal makeup and hair in a ponytail.  My favorite mixture of sweet and edgy, this outfit will go down as a favorite of mine.  Style tip here is to consider layering you favorite summer dresses with vests and outerwear for a more fall inspired look….perfect way to get more wear out of your more formal items.  Hope you find some outfit inspiration and check out my tips for layering necklaces below!  Happy weekend to ALL!!!

Layering Necklaces:
I love this trend and am glad to see it making a comeback.  I have been rocking it for quite some time!
I might be in the minority, but I don’t think there are a ton of rules to layering.  My advice…

1.  The most important thing to remember is all of the necklaces you choose to wear must be different lengths.  I would say make sure there is at least an inch between where they hit on your neckline.

2.  I love the mixture of metals like you see above.  It is a modern take and shows you aren’t afraid to have a little fun! Of course, all gold or all silver look great too!

3.  Really it is about letting your personality shine through.  Much like any accessory it is an expression of who YOU are.  Do what feels right for you.

East West Mama’s: We Heart Vintage Jewelry!

Back for another East West Mamas collaboration with my beautiful blogging friend Tanya of November Grey.  This month we are highlighting vintage baubles and how to style them in a modern way.  Tanya is a vintage queen and finds the most incredible clothing, accessories and even shoes at her local spots.  I am not much of a vintage shopper….I think I lack the patience it requires….but I have always been drawn to vintage styled jewelry/accessories, as you know from many posts featuring cool pieces I have collected through the years. (here, here, here, here and here to name a few)

With the necklace as the star of this outfit…I opted for all black, which is a look I totally adore. Tanya opted for all bordeaux. Stunning!  Loving the solid pairings from head to toe..how about you?  I gave my summer silk maxi a little taste of fall by pairing it with my favorite Rachel Zoe leather vest.  When in doubt, head to toe of one color can really make a style statement! Pop over to Tanya’s blog to see more shots of her sporting the amazing vintage tassel necklace here.

Love the idea of styling your OWN piece of vintage jewelry?  Well, here is your shot!  I am gifting the below medallion necklace to one of YOU!  Hope you find some outfit inspiration…..Good luck and hope you have an AWESOME holiday weekend:)

Fedali Portrait Photography

As I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to dedicate an entire post to my experience with Fedali Portrait Photography.  Although I realize not everyone has a style blog……I do feel that every woman deserves to have beautiful photography of themselves. I really love my photos and plan to frame one in my bedroom to serve as a reminder of how glamorous I can be when in the throes of diapers, laundry and just the general chaos that is my life.

Are you wondering what to expect?  In owner and photographer Oksana’s own words, “It is not just about a photoshoot but about an experience.  You can book a hair and makeup artist, sip champagne, truly take a break from your hectic life”.  She guides her clients through every step of the process including  a preshoot consultation (via skype or phone), helping decide on wardrobe and theme for the shoot.  On the day of, she will make sure you feel comfortable and look your best by helping you pose and feel natural in front of the camera (I can confirm she is great at this)!  Packages start at $550.  Please contact Oksana directly at oksana@fedali.com  if you are interested in learning more.

This is my favorite shot from the day.  Rarely do I look or feel this glamorous or pulled together….so this was a stand out for me.

These shots seemed to really capture ME and are classic enough to stand the test of time.  I plan to use these for the website relaunch.

These shots are just FUN!  Another favorite dress of mine by Von Vonni….the movement of these is amazing!

These were a close second for favorites of mine.  I am slightly obsessed with the blazer…and these feel so high fashion to me.  Planning to choose one of these for my bedroom, I think.

A 40th Birthday and Gladiator Heels!

I am often guilty of the “wear it one time only” game with dresses, so when I knew my brother in laws 40th was on the horizon, I decided to shop my own closet.  I wore this dress before here for my little sisters baby shower and decided I could most definitely wear it again a few months later. I love the skater style…and by pairing it with different heels, accessories and styling my hair differently….it felt like I was wearing a whole new outfit…sort of “old hollywood glam”…which is what I was aiming for:)  Do wear special ocassion dresses only once? If not, what do you do to make them feel fresh and new?

Red Lips compliments of Revlon: Hot Passion

My husband, myself and my sister in law hosted the party at a great restaurant on the Manasquan River called River Rock.  The spot was the perfect mix of dressy/casual with views of boats cruising by all night….we lucked out and got a firework show around 10pm….all in all it was an awesome night filled with tons of family and friends.  Since both my hubby and his brother are camera shy (don’t you ever wonder why you never see my man) you won’t see any shots of them….but my girlfriends are happy to pose with me!

* Sorry shots aren’t the best quality…all were taken with my phone and probably not the steadiest of hands! #everyonedranktheirfairsharethatnight

Instagrammed: The Best Dress I Have Ever Worn!

I have never loved a dress more than the one featured below (excluding my bridal gown).  I originally saw it on the Von Vonni site for $550 and although I was obsessed, I just couldn’t stomach that price for a dress.  I watched and I waited and low and behold one fine day it went on sale!  Half off!!  I didn’t even blink an eye, I just added to cart and paid:)  The dramatic peekaboo lace paired with the silk flowing florals is seriously the most beautiful combination I have ever seen.  I attended a wedding this past weekend with all of my best friends from college….we left the husbands at home and all flied solo…Girls Night…and it was SO fun!

If you follow on Instagram  you saw this dress over the weekend….never had this kind of response to a dress.  Since so many were desiring the look and unfortunately the dress is sold out, I decided to create a set featuring dresses that evoke the same vibe.  Happy Shopping and make it a great week:)

Black and Brown…High and Low

I had a jampacked awesome weekend!  Out to dinner Friday…Met Bill and Giuliana Saturday….Friends daughters first communion Sunday (complete with bouncy house for the kids).  If you follow on Instagram you saw sneak peaks of all of this..so be sure to join in the fashion fun:)  I used to think black and brown together was a big “no no”, turns out it is one of my favorite pairings.  The tip here is to make sure you inject enough of each to show it wasn’t a mistake.  For example, had I worn a black belt and just the brown shoes, it wouldn’t have made the same fashion impact as both being brown…make sense?  I often wonder what I will do when the “high low” hemline isn’t trendy anymore.  In an effort to “keep it real” there are two reasons I love this trend. First, it allows you to show a good amount of leg without being trashy or overexposed (important for us thirty-somethings).  Second, it covers up my spider veins that seem to have taken over my upper thigh after baby number two (researching laser treatments as I write this).  TMI?  Hope you are fashionably inspired and make it a great week!

As I venture further into my thirties, I am always cognizant of what trends I can appropriately try out and what trends I have to leave behind.  I posted the “crop top” to my “Style to Skip” Pinterest board last week because, as cute as the trend is, I just don’t think I can rock it with any sort of confidence.  I am however majorly smitten with the see through shirt, or as I like to call it, the “peekaboo” trend.  By keeping the rest of the outfit simple and understated, the blouse is the perfect and appropriate amount of sexy for me.  Of course, the blouse can absolutely be worn with a tank underneath, but for a night out on the town, I was willing to go a little bit scandalous.  I am in my thirties, not dead:)

I am highlighting SAVA again…if you are a newbie..check out my prior posts on this amazing brand hereherehere and here.  If you are a regular..you know I love the brand…and the Spring 2013 Collection is no exception.  So many items to love….let’s start with these below.  Currently there is free shipping on their site and you can also use code TSF10 for ten percent off either of the items below! White Shoes: Not Just For Your Wedding Day

I don’t get a ton of time to sit and read fashion magazines with two little ones ruling my world, but there is one magazine I always grab first when I am getting my monthly pedi….People Style Watch.  As a die hard fashion lover, I know it probably isn’t what I should admit to reading but I honestly love the “real” celebrity photos, the trend forecasts and the bag/shoe round ups.  This March issue was no disappointment and one of the first pages I earmarked was this great shot of Gwyneth Paltrow in a killer black dress with, you guessed it, white pumps.  I immediately knew it was a trend I wanted to try for Spring.  It was slightly challenging finding pairs that didn’t scream wedding day, but I think I found some really beautiful options.  If you want to search on your own, my advice would be keep it clean with either a pump or peep toe, avoid appliques of flowers or bows and stay in the leather family (satin fabric screams wedding).  I haven’t decided which pair will be mine…but you can bet I will be sporting one of these below in the coming months on the blog.  Happy Shopping!
